The Chamber of Commerce is committed to the growth and development of business in Fluvanna and the surrounding areas. We have a group of dedicated individuals serving on the Board of Directors and we are excited about the core values set forth this year: (a) creating a strong local economy, (b) promoting the community, (c) providing networking opportunities, (d) and representing the interests of business with government. Please take the time to stop by the Chamber office to meet our staff, and find out how you can become involved. The Chamber can always be relied on to provide you with information about the business community. The Chamber of Commerce is one of the voices of the business community both within the county government and the community.
Fluvanna County is located in Central Virginia. Charlottesville is the nearest city, though Richmond is within easy reach of the eastern half of the county. The Chamber of Commerce equitably supports the growth in the business community while at the same time supporting the sentiments of many of its members to help the county maintain it rural traditions and values. We have championed the understanding that balanced business growth with the residential growth is essential to prevent the loss of our rural heritage.
The Chamber office serves as a centerpiece for the flow of information for residents and business alike. We promote economic growth in Fluvanna County by encouraging our community to "buy local," attracting new business to the county, and partnering with various organizations to strategically plan for the future.
The Chamber of Commerce encourages business large and small to become involved in all of our activities. We have established a monthly "Welcome to Fluvanna" packet which is sent to all new residents and business in the county. This packet contains business flyers and coupons. We have a number of traditional activities. A trip to Richmond each February to meet with our state legislators. In March, we publish our "Guide to Fluvanna County". In May, we host our Scholarship Golf Tournament, host a Business Appreciation Week and Breakfast. In May, we award four scholarships to graduating county high school seniors. In October, we participate in "Old Farm Day". In November, we host our annual membership meeting. In December, we have our Holiday Social.
Throughout the year we sponsor other events for our members, such as "Business After Hours" which have been quite successful. In addition, we have monthly business meetings, which are open to all members and guests. We are working closely with the new Piedmont Crossroads Visitor Information Center to promote tourism in the county. I invite our members to actively participate in our open meetings, membership recruitment, articles for publication in our newsletter and service through participation in our Chamber committees.
In closing, I look forward to leading the Chamber as we seek to increase business of our members. We encourage input from our membership because Fluvanna County is strengthened by your support!
Yours Truly,
Robert Mayfield
